Many people these days want to create content. Some go straight to YouTube for videos, while others enjoy writing and sharing their thoughts through blogs. If you're one of those who love to write, I’ve picked out five blogging platforms that can really make things easier for you. I’ve personally used a few of them myself, so I’ll share my honest thoughts and explain what makes each one unique. Some are beginner-friendly, while others might take a bit more time to get used to. So let’s get started
WordPress
On our first place there is WordPress which is the most popular blogging platform in the world. As of May 2025, over 529 million websites use WordPress. This means that almost half of all websites mainly blog websites are built with WordPress.
WordPress started in 2003 and is now managed by a company called Automattic. It offers two versions: WordPress.org, which is free but requires you to set up your own hosting, and WordPress.com, which is easier to start with but has some limitations.
Many people like WordPress because it's flexible and has thousands of themes and plugins to customize your blog. However, for beginners, it might feel a bit complicated at first, especially if you're using the self-hosted version.
Blogger
Second on our list we find there Blogger which is a free blogging platform owned by Google. It's been around since 1999 and is one of the oldest blogging tools available.
Blogger is very easy to use, making it a good choice for beginners. You can quickly set up a blog and start writing without worrying about technical details. However, it has fewer customization options compared to other platforms.
Since it's a Google product, it integrates well with other Google services like Google Analytics and AdSense. But some users feel that Blogger hasn't been updated much in recent years, and it might not be the best choice for long-term growth.
Wix
Next one is Wix. Wix is a website builder that also offers blogging features. As of 2025, Wix has over 250 million users worldwide. It's known for its drag-and-drop interface, which makes it easy to design your blog without any coding knowledge.
Wix provides many templates and design options, allowing you to create a visually appealing blog. It also offers built-in SEO tools and analytics to help you grow your audience.
However, some users find that Wix can be less flexible than other platforms, especially if you want to make advanced customizations. Also, switching to another platform from Wix can be challenging.
Medium
And now comes Medium is a platform focused on writing and reading. It was founded in 2012 by Evan Williams, one of the co-founders of Twitter. As of February 2025, Medium receives about 105.4 million monthly views worldwide.
Medium is great for writers who want to focus on their content without worrying about design or technical aspects. It has a clean, minimalist interface that emphasizes reading.
One of the benefits of Medium is its built-in audience, which can help new writers gain exposure. However, customization options are limited, and monetization is primarily through the Medium Partner Program. If you want more control over your blog's appearance and features, Medium might not be the best choice.
One of the drawback of Medium is that the platform isn't open to all countries For example, a user from Malaysia mentioned being blocked from accessing the site on their iPad, even though they weren't using a VPN and even some of other countries may not be accessed I think these issues may be related to Medium's internal security measures or regional internet routing problems thou medium haven't talked about the issue yet.
Squarespace
Lastly on our last we have Squarespace is an all-in-one website builder that includes blogging capabilities. It was launched in 2004 by Anthony Casalena. As of 2025, Squarespace powers approximately 2.96 million live websites.
Squarespace is known for its beautiful templates and ease of use. It's a good option for bloggers who want a professional-looking site without dealing with technical details. It also offers features like e-commerce integration, which is helpful if you plan to sell products or services.
However, Squarespace operates on a subscription model, which might be a consideration if you're on a tight budget. Additionally, while it's user-friendly, it may not offer the same level of customization as platforms like WordPress.
