It hurts a lot when we lose people we love. Everyone feels that pain. Some people leave us with memories we can never forget. Sometimes, we also feel sad for people we never met, but they still touched our hearts and cared in some way.
Today, we want to remember some famous people who died in 2024. We will look at who they were and what they did in their lives.
Liam Payne
Many of us knew Liam Payne, an English singer and songwriter, born on August 29, 1993. Many knew him as a member of the very popular boy band One Direction, which became famous all over the world. After the band took a break, Liam started his own music career. He tragically died on October 16, 2024, at the young age of 31, after a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His death was a sad event for his many fans.
Franz Beckenbauer
One person many people knew also was Franz Beckenbauer. He was a super famous football (soccer) player from Germany, born on September 11, 1945. He was so good that he helped Germany win the World Cup as a player in 1974 and then again as a coach in 1990. He even showed like a new way to play a position on the field. Sadly, he left us on January 7, 2024, when he was 78.
Carl Weathers
Then there was Carl Weathers, an actor many will remember from the "Rocky" movies. He was born on January 14, 1948. In those movies, he played Apollo Creed, a strong and cool boxer. He was also in other movies like "Predator" and the TV show "The Mandalorian," showing he could play all sorts of parts. Carl passed away on February 1, 2024, at the age of 76.
David Seidler
We also said goodbye to David Seidler, who was a very talented writer for movies. He was born on August 4, 1937. He wrote the amazing movie "The King's Speech," which is about a king who had trouble speaking. It was a beautiful story, and he won a big award called an Oscar for it. David passed away on March 16, 2024. He was 86.
N. Scott Momaday
The world of books lost a special voice when N. Scott Momaday passed away. Born on February 27, 1934, he was a Native American writer. He wrote a famous book called "House Made of Dawn" and won a very important prize for it, the Pulitzer Prize. He was the first Native American to win it! His stories often shared important things about Native American life and their connection to the earth. He left us on January 24, 2024, at 89 years old.
Glynis Johns
Many people may have known Glynis Johns, an actress who was in lots of movies and plays. She was born way back on October 5, 1923! A lot of people know her as the mom, Mrs. Banks, in the Disney movie "Mary Poppins." She also won a big award for being in a play called "A Little Night Music," where she sang a very famous song. Glynis passed away on January 4, 2024. She lived a very long life, all the way to 100!
