Tehran Hit by Blasts, Tuesday Ceasefire Between Iran and Israel Now Uncertain

TEHRAN, Iran – June 24, 2025 – Powerful explosions were reported in Iran’s capital city, Tehran, early on Tuesday morning. This alarming development has cast serious doubt on a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel that former U.S. President Donald Trump had announced only hours before.

The ceasefire was intended to stop a recent 12-day period of intense fighting between the two Middle Eastern nations. Mr. Trump had stated that both Iran and Israel agreed to a "complete and total ceasefire," which was supposed to happen in stages. Reports indicated that both countries had initially accepted this plan, which was said to have been worked on with help from the United States and Qatar.

However, the peace was short-lived. Soon after the ceasefire was meant to begin, Israeli officials accused Iran of breaking the agreement by launching missiles. Iran has denied that it fired any missiles after the ceasefire was scheduled to start.

Following these accusations, Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, reportedly ordered the Israeli military to restart "intense strikes" on targets in Tehran.

Adding to the confusing situation, former President Trump, who had earlier expressed disappointment that both sides reportedly violated the terms, later on Tuesday declared that the ceasefire "is in effect." He also stated that Israel would not attack Iran and urged Israeli forces to "bring your pilots home." This contrasted with reports from an Israeli official who claimed the U.S. government knew Iran had violated the ceasefire.

The explosions in Tehran on Tuesday morning follow a dangerous 12-day period. During this time, the United States military bombed three of Iran's nuclear sites: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Iran, in turn, launched attacks, including one on a U.S. military base located in Qatar.

This recent conflict has led to significant casualties. Reports from Iran suggest hundreds have been killed and over 3,000 injured. In Israel, at least 24 people were reported killed as a result of Iranian strikes. Just moments before the ceasefire was due to take effect, an Iranian missile strike in the Israeli city of Beersheba reportedly killed four people. In a statement on Tuesday, June 24, the Iranian government said it has "taken the necessary measures" to make sure its nuclear program can continue, despite the recent attacks on its facilities.

The situation across the region remains highly tense. It is currently unclear if the ceasefire efforts can be saved or if the conflict will worsen. The conflicting reports and actions from Tehran, Israel, and involving the former U.S. President have created a very uncertain outlook.
